ISSUE 105: WHY PRAY 1?
Hey reader, welcome to another episode of POTTERED TO PERFECTION. I pray for you that your understanding is open and your mind is receptive.
13TH AUGUST 2024
As believers, we believe in Sola Scriptural; the final authority of the scripture. This posits the Bible as the sole infallible source of authority for Christian faith and practice.
Also, as believers, we have to know this, Jesus came not only as the saviour but an example to emulate; He also revealed the perfect will of God to us. So if we are to even argue or talk about pray we should check through the life of Jesus ; God manifest in flesh 1Tim.3:16.
DID JESUS PRAY?
The Bible did not keep us in dark as regards the prayer life of Jesus. Heb.5.7 - Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
He not only prayed, but prayed with strong cry and tears. If He prayed so fervently as God in human flesh we are also expected to pray. Secondly, this also shows that prayer is part and parcel of our humanity. Jesus is God no doubt but to save man He had to come in human form and the moment He took up the human flesh, He was subjected to the laws of humanity. As a man, He could not do without prayer. Therefore, it's normal for human to pray and abnormal not to.
Also, the prayer of Jesus was not to bring God to a point of saving Him from death, but to show that in order for the will of God to be done here on earth man has to come to a state of prayer; man through his prayer must make the choice of allowing and partnering with what God wants to do.
WHY THEN SHOULD WE PRAY AS BELIEVERS
We pray so we can take our place in what we already know we should do.
Through the word of God we know what we should do as believers, but in between the knowledge and taking our place in what we know is PRAYER. See, when Jesus ; God manifest in flesh, put on our humanity He became subject to death, He said “if possible let this cup Passover me but let your will be done” - as human He wanted His own will ( let this cup pass over) Matt 26:39 but was able to partner with God’s will after prayers.
Jesus knew God would save Him , infact all through the old testament it was written over and over again how that He would be born, die for our sins and resurrect. So Jesus knew, but right in the garden of Gethsemane before His death, He was sorrowful, he prayed and prayed and it was at that point that He said, “not my will but your will God”.
The journey of transitioning from I know to becoming needs prayer.
Oftentimes than not, we know what to do as believers, am I right? We hear messages and are immediately fired up to do it, yet after sometimes we deviate, am I right? Did we deviate because we don’t know what to do? No? So as believers there is so much power in praying. Knowing should infact move us to pray.
In conclusion;
It is abnormal to be a Christian and not pray. To do God's will you will have to be a praying man not only a man of the word. If you claimed to have truly read the Bible and understood it, it should move you to a place of prayer.
If this piece has blessed you please share it with someone.
